April 2025:
Did a bunch of clay stuff the past two months that I’m very grateful for.

Slip-trailing workshop with Grace Potter at the Potters Studio.

Workshop with the incomparable Moon do Bang at Merritt Ceramics.
- He works with really hard clay. Much harder than clay directly out of the bag.
- “Water is like gold” - using too much water is unnecessary. “Slip is free” - slip can be used in lieu of water.
- So much pre-centering. After wedging into a tall cone and placing on the wheel, the clay was smacked around like crazy so that it was largely centered before even adding water.

NCECA 2025 in Salt Lake City. I didn’t take many photos but it was cool.

February 2025:
Will be making a lot more stuff soon! For the past few weeks I have been creating many cups for glaze tests. I’ve been using Amaco’s Cirrus Flow in combination with Merritt Ceramic’s studio glazes. But my favorite, by far, is using coloered slip underneath the translucent blue glaze so that bright colors like red and orange really pop out underneath.

September 2024:
Making more stuff. Who knows.

June 2024:
I ended up with 30+ mugs. Most are not very good; other are okay. As my standards rise, I end up giving most of my ceramics to neighbors or friends. If you’d ever like some free-but-not-so-good ceramics, let me know.

I spent two weeks in Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Beijing. It’s silly to compare myself to ancient ceramics masters from millenia ago but I can’t help but look at my own ceramics and think about how clumsy they feel. Oh well!

May 2024:
I have avoided making handles for two years but I’m finally in my mug phase. Pulling each handle is pretty tough! But they have gotten a bit better.
